NA body calls for probe into death

ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly Standing Committee on Minorities on Wednesday demanded a judicial probe into the death of Robert Fanish Masih, who died in custody after being arrested on charges of defiling the holy Quran. Meanwhile, the committee, which met under the chairmanship of Dr Mahesh Kumar Malani, also called for an autopsy to determine the cause of death, said a statement issued after the meeting. The members were sceptical of the stance taken by the jail authorities that Robert Masih had committed suicide. The meeting was attended by Dr Lal Chand, Mrs Farhat Khan, Malik Nawab Sher Waseer, Mehrunnisa Afridi, Nafisa Shah, Ramesh Lal, Dr Darshan, Dr Nelson Azeem and Dr Afaish Kumar. The meeting unanimously condemned Robert Masih’s death. app
